When Starfleet Intelligence orders the testing of the prototype cloaking device that Captain Kirk stole from the Romulans, the decision is made to connect the apparatus to the systems of the U.S.S. Enterprise. As part of the experiment, Kirk and Commander Spock are left behind in the shuttlecraft Galileo with instructions to locate their camouflaged vessel, which has been placed under temporary command of Chief Engineer Scott. Unable to find the ship in the designated area, Kirk and Spock second-guess Scotty’s tactics and locate the invisible Enterprise in the vicinity of a white dwarf. However, when they board the ship, they discover that the technologies used to connect the device to the Enterprise have caused the exterior of the ship to lose molecular cohesion, while the interior – including the crew – are now out of phase with normal time. As Kirk and Spock attempt to rectify the situation, an unidentified vessel is detected on an approach vector…
